Many women are unhappy with the shape and size of their breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is a very popular procedure among women to enhance their cup size and get the look they want as well as improving self-confidence and body image.
Breast implant surgery is a very popular procedure among women to enhance their cup size and get the look they want as well as improving self-confidence and body image.
Breast implants can be filled with either silicone or saline. Both implants are considered safe for breast augmentation and breast reconstruction. Your surgeon might recommend one type over another based on a number of factors including the anatomy of your breasts and your body type. Ultimately, the final choice is always yours.
Silicone Gel-Filled Implants
These implants consist of a silicone outer shell and a gel-based filler. Silicone implants are stronger and have a more natural feel than saline-filled implants.
There are two types of silicone gel-filled implants:
1) Silicone Gel Implants:
These implants are filled with a cohesive gel that maintains its shape in all positions and doesn’t leak. They are also light and soft to touch with a very natural feel. Silicone gel implants cost more than saline ones, but they also tend to last slightly longer.
2) Gummy Bear Implants:
These are teardrop-shaped gel-based implants, also known as highly cohesive gel implants. They are known to retain their shape better than other types while still being soft to touch. Due to their strength, they are less likely to rupture than other silicone or saline-based implants.
Different Shapes and Sizes of Implants:
Size: Emphasis is usually on the brand of the implant, but they usually measure between 100cc-800cc.
Textured surfaces implants are best for breast implantations that are placed under the breast tissue as they are highly vulnerable to contracture. Textured surfaces are designed to reduce Capsular Contracture. Smooth surface implants, however, are recommended for placements that will go under the muscle. Smooth surface implants also have a lower rate of rippling compared to the textured surface implants.
Our surgeons use the highest quality breast implants for patient safety and optimal results. The following brands are available:
Motiva offers a range of silicone gel-filled implants that can adapt to the breast shape for a more natural look and feel. Motiva is also the first implant in the world that comes with an optional microchip that helps monitor the implants. All materials used in the manufacture of Motiva implants are approved by both European and US (FDA) authorities. Motiva implants are available in two outer shell surfaces: VelvetSurface, which is micro-textured and Silk Surface, which is a nanotextured implant.
One of the leading breast implant brands in the world, Mentor offers a wide range of silicone and saline implants for breast augmentation and reconstruction. The silicone implants are prefilled with a cohesive silicone gel that helps the implants retain a natural feel. The saline implants come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and profiles. They are inserted into the body without fluid and filled during surgery to the required size. The implant then seals itself. Mentor saline implants are available in two surface options – smooth and textured.
Contour Profile Gel (CPG) breast implants are teardrop-shaped gummy bear implants manufactured by Mentor. They are filled with a highly cohesive gel and shaped to mimic the silhouette of a natural breast.
Sebbin offers a range of cohesive gel-filled silicone implants for breast augmentation and reconstruction. The implants, which can be textured or nanotextured, come in various shapes, sizes, and projections.
In addition to silicone implants, breast augmentation can also be performed by using autologous fat grafting. This involves extracting fat tissue from other parts of your body and injecting it into the breasts to make them bigger. Typical donor-sites used for fat grafting include the hips, the thighs, and the stomach.
For a moderate augmentation of the breast, approximately 100-200 ml of fat may be used per breast. If desired, the process can be repeated to increase the breast size later. Approximately 50-80% of the transferred fat will survive and remain permanently in the breast. The rest will be reabsorbed by the body. It usually takes about three months to see the final results of the operation.
Fat grafting may be a good option for women who want to avoid the risks of implants and/or desire moderate and natural breast enhancement.
Hybrid Breast Augmentation
Hybrid breast augmentation surgery is an advanced procedure combining breast implants and fat grafting. It is also known as hybrid breast augmentation.
Hybrid breast augmentation may be the ideal procedure if:
- You are looking for a more customized solution to breast implants
- Your breasts are very wide apart or unsymmetrical
- You have a very bony upper chest or thin skin tissue on breastbone
- You want to achieve maximum fullness in the upper breast while maintaining natural-looking results
Hybrid breast augmentation can be used to enhance breast size more than fat grafting alone and provides more localized contouring compared to just implants. The combination approach provides a safe and reliable method for breast augmentation that produces more natural, customizable results.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss can all stretch the breast tissue, which can leave women unsatisfied with the shape of their breasts.
Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that aims to restore a more youthful, perkier appearance to sagging breasts.
During the surgery, excess skin is removed, and breast tissue is reshaped to raise, reshape, and firm the breasts. The procedure is best suited for women who are generally happy with the size of their breasts but seek to enhance their appearance for a perkier result.
Breast lift is a common procedure to raise and reshape your breasts. Interplast Clinic provides breast lift surgery by board-certified plastic surgeons with over 20 years of experience.
Breast Lift Operational Techniques
Crescent Lift
The crescent lift technique involves using a crescent-shaped incision to remove a small amount of skin from above the areola and reattaching the ends with very fine stitches. The crescent incision pattern is typically used in cases where there is only mild sagging or drooping, and it is best suited for patients with smaller breasts.
Donut Lift
Donut mastopexy is an option when the breast lift is combined with breast augmentation. The technique involves removing a circular-shaped piece of skin from around the areola and closing the incision with stitches along the gap where skin has been removed. One of the main advantages of the donut lift is that the incision marks are hidden in the natural creases of the areola with no vertical scars on the breasts. Good candidates for the donut lift are women with small or medium-sized breasts with only mild breast sagging.
Lollipop
The most versatile of breast lift techniques, the lollipop lift involves combining an incision around the areola with a vertical incision that runs downwards from the bottom of the areola. The surgeon will then lift the nipple and the areola to their new position and close the incisions with stitches. The final result is an incision pattern in the shape of a lollipop. This approach is often favored because it produces a better appearance of the vertical scar, and it allows the surgeon to elevate the areola to a higher, more youthful-looking position. Women with mild to moderate sagging of the breasts can expect favorable outcomes with the lollipop technique.
Anchor lift
If you have a significant amount of breast sagging, your surgeon may recommend an anchor lift. The anchor lift is the oldest breast lift technique and it is often performed when a breast lift is combined with breast reduction.
The surgeon will make an incision around the areola and then a vertical one running downwards from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease. A third incision is made horizontally along the breast crease, with the final incision pattern forming an anchor shape. It is also known as the inverted T breast lift. This technique produces the most amount of scarring, and therefore it’s typically recommended for women who need a more effective correction of sagging breasts compared to other, less invasive techniques.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy) + Augmentation
A breast lift is often combined with breast augmentation surgery. A combined technique may be preferable to stand-alone surgery when the breasts have lost significant volume as a result of breastfeeding or weight loss. This combination procedure aims to help women achieve the ideal size and shape of the breasts.
Advantages of breast lift with augmentation
- Elevates breasts and enhances their size with one procedure, which eliminates the need to go under general anesthesia twice.
- You probably won’t need to add as much volume compared to breast implants only.
- Can help breasts maintain their youthful, perky appearance for a long time.
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the size of the breasts. During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will remove excess skin, fat and tissue in order to resize the breasts.
Breast reduction surgery aims to address a number of issues caused by large breasts. Patients choose to undergo this type of surgery in order to fix health problems associated with large breasts, including back and neck pain, skin irritation, bra strap indentations, poor posture and interference with normal daily activities such as exercise.
Breast reduction surgery can also alleviate self-consciousness associated with large, heavy breasts as well as allowing you to participate in activities that were impossible before. It will also open up a number of new possibilities to explore as far as clothing and fashion are concerned.
Ideal candidates for breast reduction
There is no optimal age for breast reduction, although ideally your breasts should have fully stopped developing. Weight fluctuations can also affect breast size, so it is important to have maintained a steady weight for at least 6 months before surgery.
One of the most common complications after breast augmentation surgery is capsular contracture. This happens when the scar tissue that normally forms around the implant tightens and contracts around the implant and starts to squeeze the implant. As a result, the appearance of the breasts may become distorted. There may also be pain or discomfort from the tissue tightening around the implant.
Breast capsulectomy involves the surgical removal of this scar tissue or capsule and removing the breast implant. The implant itself may then be reinserted or replaced with a new one.
There are many reasons a patient may want to have their breast implants removed. Implants may no longer feel necessary due to lifestyle or personal reasons. Although breast implants last for a long time, unfortunately they don’t last forever. Most healthcare practitioners recommend changing silicone implants after 10-20 years. Ruptured breast implants should always be removed. Signs of ruptured implants include changes in breast shape or size, firmness, or swelling.
If you are worried that your breast skin has been stretched, your surgeon may recommend further work such as breast lift to restore youthful appearance and perkiness to your breasts.
Reasons a patient may want to have breast implants removed
- You want to reduce your breast size or make them bigger
- The original augmentation surgery didn’t meet the expected results
- You would like to switch to a different type or brand of implant
- Complications arising from the existing implants, such as capsular contracture, rupture, or leak
- You’ve decided you don’t want breast implants anymore
Areolas are the darker skin areas surrounding each nipple. Just like the breasts and the nipples, areolas can come in all shapes and sizes.
The average areola is approximately 4 sizes in diameter. It can also be much bigger than this. Genetics plays a big role in determining the size of the areola as well as the breast that surrounds it. The size of the areola can also be affected by breastfeeding.
Although not a health concern, some people with large areolas may choose to have them reduced. Areola reduction is a relatively simple procedure performed with the aim of reducing the diameter of the areola. The purpose of the operation is to create a round, symmetrical shape and a cosmetically pleasing size for the areola in relation to the breast size.
Good candidates for areola reduction are generally healthy men and women who are not satisfied with the size of their areolas. Areola reduction can be performed at any age, although women’s breasts should be fully developed before surgery.
