Face Lift

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure used to reduce visible signs of aging in your face and neck.

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure used to reduce visible signs of aging in your face and neck. A facelift can include removing excessive facial skin, smoothing out wrinkles or skin folds, and tightening the facial tissues, effectively “turning back the clock” on aging by making skin appear smoother and creating a more youthful appearance.

No matter how well you stay out of the sun and care for your skin, everyone eventually succumbs to gravity and lost facial volume. While facial volume loss produces a hollow appearance around the eyes and in the cheeks, gravity causes the skin to sag and create the appearance of jowls and “turkey neck.” More and more people are keeping their youthful looks and enjoying the best things in life longer. Facelift surgery is suitable for men and women who have a well-defined bone structure, but are concerned about sagging skin in the face and neck. It is considered one of the most effective and satisfying surgical anti-aging treatments and it provides long-lasting results as well as a dramatically improved facial appearance.

Two different types of face lifts

Not all facelifts are the same. The different types of facelift surgery can vary by the area of the face they are performed on as well as the types of incisions used. Here is a short guide to the 5 main types of facelifts performed at our plastic surgery clinic in Bangkok.

A facelift can improve a tired facial appearance by smoothing the skin and reestablishing defined contours along the neck and jaw line. It is often done in combination with other procedures including a brow lift and eyelid surgery to create an overall harmonious, youthful result.

Full Face Lift

A facelift is a type of plastic surgery used to restore a more youthful appearance to the neck and jowl regions by removing major wrinkles and sagging skin. If there is excess fat in the neck or chin region, this can simultaneously be addressed with liposuction or direct excision. It is often done in combination with other procedures including a brow lift and eyelid surgery to create an overall harmonious, youthful result.

The full facelift is an extensive surgical procedure used to remove excess skin and smoothing out folds or wrinkles over your entire facial area including your cheeks, lower jawline, and neck.

It is achieved by using long and deep incisions that are introduced under your hairline or above the ears, neck, and through various other areas. It effectively corrects the sagging and loose skin of your face and neck and contributes to making significant improvements to enhance your physical appearance.

A full facelift is recommended to adults or older patients with significant visible signs of aging. It provides the most dramatic and lasting results of all different facelift types but requires more time for recovery.

  • Read the pre-surgery instructions. This will help prevent complications and improve the outcome of your surgery.
  • Medical history assessment (any allergies, serious medical condition and all medications taken both prescribed, and non-prescribed), physical examination, and laboratory tests will be performed during consultation.
  • Avoid smoking for about 3-4 weeks prior to surgery, as nicotine interferes with circulation and will greatly affect the healing process.
  • Stop drinking alcohol, a week before the surgery and throughout your recovery period.
  • Taking any medications should be avoided such as hormones, anticoagulants, anabolic steroids, and supplements at least 4-6 weeks to prevent complicating medical factors prior to surgery, and also avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.

Read the recovery instructions. Postoperatively patients may have a drain in overnight as well as head and neck wrappings. After these are removed, patients are often required to wear a removable chin strap for several weeks. Sutures are usually removed 7-14 days after surgery. Usually it takes 2 to 3 weeks before most patients feel socially presentable.

Mid Face Lift

A plastic surgery procedure designed to correct below the lower eyelids and deep nasolabial folds which run from the base of the nose to the outer corners of the mouth. It creates a youthful appearance by smoothing the transition between the lower eyelids and upper cheek region. If improvement in the neck or jowl region is desired, a Mid Face Lift can be combined with a Neck Lift.

A mid facelift addresses some of the earliest signs of aging and is usually performed on patients concerned about sagging skin in the cheeks and the surrounding area.
It targets your cheeks and the under-eye area by pulling back the soft tissues for a younger, rejuvenated appearance. The procedure is usually performed using small incisions around the hairline to minimize scarring on the face.

A Mid Face Lift is suitable for patients who do not have much loose skin or prominent wrinkles on the lower part of the face. It fully treats your upper cheeks and eyelid surface, and is also commonly known as a cheek lift.

Read the recovery instructions. A fair amount of bruising and swelling are expected for 1-2 weeks after surgery. Ice and ocular lubricants can be helpful early on. Stitches are usually removed 7-10 days after surgery. There can be a period lasting several weeks of an overcorrected or “Asian” appearance to the eyes which relaxes over a period of 4-6 weeks.

Neck Lift

A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical solution to improve visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck.

Youthful contours in the neck and face can be lost due to a variety of factors, such as stress, weight gain, environmental conditions, and heredity.

If you are bothered by excess skin, heavy wrinkles or other signs of aging, Neck Lift surgery can help to effectively balance and smooth out the neck and chin areas.

Some of the common problems that lead people towards neck lift surgery are:

A Neck Lift is commonly combined with a lower facelift, although it can also be performed as an individual procedure. Depending on the severity of the skin excess, the procedure may be performed by liposuction plus tightening of the neck muscle under the chin.

Neck Lift procedures are designed to suit the needs of each patient on an individual basis. If you feel that you might benefit from a neck lift, ask for a consultation with a plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon.

Neck Lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.
The surgery begins with a small incision under the jaw to tighten the skin and the underlying muscles of the neck (the platysma muscles).

The surgeon will then insert a small liposuction cannula for removing excess fat and contouring the chin and the neck. If you have a lot of loose skin, an incision behind the ears may be necessary to perform skin re-draping around the neck.

Sometimes it is also necessary to treat the submaxillary glands by trimming the enlarged or drooping part of the gland. The neck is then shaped for a natural and youthful result. During your consultation, your surgeon will examine your neck and discuss your goals and create an individual surgery plan for you. The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform and you should be able to return home on the same day.

  • Read the pre-surgery instructions.
  • This will help prevent complications and improve the outcome of your surgery.
  • Your surgeon may prescribe a daily face washing routine to be completed in the days before surgery, to prepare the skin for the procedure.
  • Abstain from eating or drinking anything after midnight on the day before your surgery.
  • Read the recovery instructions.
  • Your neck may feel a bit tight after a few weeks with some bruising and swelling.
  • You should keep your neck elevated above your heart to minimize swelling; avoid twisting or bending your neck.
  • Do not apply ice to the neck as this can interfere with blood circulation.
  • You should be able to return to work and your normal activities within 2 weeks.

Fat Transfer

By using fat from your own body there is no risk of rejection and it’s a more permanent solution than synthetic dermal fillers

Typical signs of facial aging include wrinkles and fine lines. As we mature, the skin also begins to lose its elasticity and lose volume, especially in the areas under the eyes, the cheeks, the jowls and the lips.

Facial fat transfer has quickly become one of the most popular procedures for restoring the volume to the face that has been lost due to the aging process.

Facial fat transfer (also known as fat grafting, fat injecting or lipofilling) is a surgical procedure that involves removing unwanted fat from other areas of the body and injecting it into the face to smooth out wrinkles or to fill out areas where volume has been lost. The fat used in the transfer can be extracted from almost any part of the body using modern liposuction techniques and prepared for injection into the face.

Fat transfer is a very natural and safe facial rejuvenation procedure. Because you are using fat from your own body there is no risk of rejection, and it provides a more permanent solution than using synthetic dermal fillers.

Common treatment areas include hollow skin under the eyes, the nasolabial folds, cheeks as well as “marionette” lines between the lips and chin.

Facial fat liposuction can be performed by using intravenous sedation, local, or general anesthesia. Our surgeons will be happy to discuss the most suitable options for you during your consultation.

The surgeon will begin by making a small incision of less than half an inch close to the area being treated, such as under the chin or behind the ear lobe. Whenever possible, the incisions are placed within the skin’s natural folds in order to minimize visible scarring on the face. The surgeon will then insert a thin cannula (a hollow tube) to remove the unwanted fat from the treatment area.

This tube suctions the fat deposits beneath the skin layer. As the tube pushes through this layer, the excess fat deposits are loosened up using a controlled back and forth motion. A surgical vacuum is then used to remove the unwanted fat from under the skin. Finally, the surgeon will close the incisions with the help of sutures. The entire procedure typically takes less than an hour, and no hospitalization is required.

  • Read the pre-surgery instructions.
  • This will help prevent complications and improve the outcome of your surgery.
  • On the day of the operation, gently clean your face with warm water and avoid any makeup.
  • Plan at least 5 to 7 days away from work.
  • Read the recovery instructions.
  • Gently clean the sutures with a cotton swab dipped in sterile water for the first week.
  • A follow-up appointment to remove the stitches will be made after 5 days.
  • You should rest with your head elevated as this will help minimize swelling and bruising.
  • Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.
  • You should be able to return to work and resume most normal activities within a few days.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 10 days.

Chin-Face Liposuction

Popular way to remove excess, unwanted fat from the face and neck to create a younger slender looking face.

During the aging process, noticeable fat deposits can accumulate in isolated areas of the face and neck. Common problem areas include the cheeks, the jawline, and the neck. This type of fat is often extremely resistant to diet and exercise, and many patients find that weight loss alone is not enough to shed stubborn fat.

Facial liposuction, also known as submental liposuction, is a popular way to remove this excess, unwanted fat from the face and neck in order to create a younger looking face with a more slender profile. The procedure can be performed on its own or combined with other facial sculpting procedures.

The process of facial liposuction is very similar to liposuction on other areas of the body. During your consultation, your surgeon will create an individual surgery plan for you based on the areas you wish to have treated.

Facial fat liposuction is suitable for men and women of all ages in good general health. The best candidates are patients with normal skin elasticity and good overall muscle tone with no skin irregularities. In these cases, facial liposuction is an excellent means to achieve good and long-lasting results.
