Preparation before surgery (major surgery)
- If you smoke, you should stop at least 3-4 weeks before surgery
- Don’t drink alcohol for 2 weeks before surgery
- Stop taking vitamins, collagen and iron supplements 2 weeks before surgery
- Stop taking aspirin, painkillers and anti-depressants 2-4 weeks before surgery
- Do not take any diet pills or supplements for 4 weeks before surgery
- People with pre-existing medical conditions may need a medical certificate from their regular doctor
- Inform the surgeon if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or require regular medication
- Patients undergoing general anesthesia must not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours before surgery
- Avoid scheduling surgery during your periods
- Plan to take 1-2 weeks leave from work depending on the extent of the surgery
