Surgery Instructions

Follow these instructions for best results

Preparation before surgery (major surgery)

  • If you smoke, you should stop at least 3-4 weeks before surgery
  • Don’t drink alcohol for 2 weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking vitamins, collagen and iron supplements 2 weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking aspirin, painkillers and anti-depressants 2-4 weeks before surgery
  • Do not take any diet pills or supplements for 4 weeks before surgery
  • People with pre-existing medical conditions may need a medical certificate from their regular doctor
  • Inform the surgeon if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or require regular medication
  • Patients undergoing general anesthesia must not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours before surgery
  • Avoid scheduling surgery during your periods
  • Plan to take 1-2 weeks leave from work depending on the extent of the surgery

Preparation before surgery (minor surgery)

  • If you smoke, you should stop at least 3-4 weeks before surgery
  • Don’t drink alcohol for 2 weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking vitamins, collagen and iron supplements 2 weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking aspirin, painkillers and anti-depressants 2-4 weeks before surgery
  • Stop taking diet pills for 4 weeks
  • People with pre-existing medical conditions may need a medical certificate from their regular doctor
  • Inform the surgeon if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or require regular medication
  • You don’t need to fast before surgery
  • Plan to take 3-7 days leave from work depending on the extent of the surgery

Recovery (major surgery)

  • You will normally stay at the hospital for 1-2 days following the procedure
  • Stitches will typically be removed 5-7 days after surgery
  • After opening the wound Should make an incision every day until the day of the cut
  • Don’t let the surgical wound get wet until stitches have been removed
  • Smoking should not be resumed until at least 3-4 weeks after surgery
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol for 3-4 weeks after surgery
  • Don’t take any vitamins, collagen or iron supplements for 4 weeks
  • Don’t take aspirin, diet pills or pain killers for 3-4 weeks after surgery unless prescribed by your doctor
  • You can eat normally except for pickled foods
  • Take all your medication as prescribed
  • If you experience any allergic reactions or symptoms such as redness, itching, nausea, vomiting or chest tightness, see a doctor immediately
  • Avoid driving for the first 10-15 days
  • You can resume your normal exercise routine 4 weeks after surgery
  • If the wound area suddenly becomes red or swollen, consult your surgeon immediately

  • Apply a cold compress on the wound 4 times a day during the first 1-3 days after surgery to reduce swelling.
  • Stitches will typically be removed 5-7 days after surgery
  • Don’t let the surgical wound get wet until stitches have been removed
  • Smoking should not be resumed until at least 3-4 weeks after surgery
  • Refrain from drinking alcohol for 3-4 weeks after surgery
