Revision Surgeries with Dr. Thee: What You Need to Know

While Dr. Theerapong is known for his unparalleled functionality/sensation, anatomically correct aesthetics, and low complication rates, he is also widely recognized for his revision surgeries, specifically correction of stenosis (failed depth) and correction of aesthetics (external vaginoplasty). The objective of this article is to discuss what to expect when a patient comes to Dr. Theerapong for a revision surgery. Please note, Amani Thailand does not mark up clinic/hospital surgery prices.

The following is a breakdown of what to expect from a medical perspective for an internal sigmoid colon graft revision with or without labiaplasty with Dr. Thee. Please note, we request that you stay for an entire month for the colon revision procedure. Please also note that, for safety reasons, we arrange accommodation 5 minutes away from the clinic so that patients have easy and quick access to the doctor should they require special attention or closer monitoring.

When you arrive in Thailand, you will have a detailed consultation with the doctor to review your questions and concerns regarding the procedure. This consultation entails us sitting down with the doctor to discuss your desired results with regard to depth and aesthetic.

During this consultation, the doctor will examine you. Photos of your surgical site will be printed. We will sit down with these photos and discuss in detail the different surgical options and risk factors for each option. Some techniques are higher risk than others. All final decisions about the surgical plan are made between you and the surgeon during this meeting.

You will be admitted to the hospital 24 hours prior to your surgery to prepare your colon for surgery. This entails laxatives and enemas to clean out your bowel. Your surgery will last between 6 and 9 hours depending on how much scar tissue you have and how much labiaplasty is required for your surgery. You will be hospitalized for approximately 5-6 days.

On the day of discharge, the doctor will unpack you in the hospital. If you had an external revision, you will see your result for the first time at the unpacking. 🙂 You will be dilated for the first time by the doctor at the clinic approximately 10-12 days from the date of your surgery. After your first dilation, you will dilate two times per day. Over the course of the next 2.5 weeks you will see the doctor a minimum of 2-3 times for him to examine you. This entails examinations with a speculum so he can see how your graft is coming along. He will also dilate you during this examination to ensure appropriate depth and to inform you of individualized dilation procedures, as every individual differs with regard to dilation needs. His nurses provide suture removal during these visits to the clinic. Typically suture removal takes place over two visits.

While it is uncommon, minor complications can arise after revision surgery such as a popped suture. Should you have any such complications, we have this assessed immediately. Correction of such complications take place in the clinic under local anesthesia.

Your last visit to the clinic takes place close to your projected departure date. The doctor will conduct a final examination and provide a written “fit to fly” letter stating that you had surgery and that you are cleared to fly after surgery. With this letter, we are able to arrange a wheelchair for you at the airport should you require this.
